The Queens Guard

Last week I spent three days in the centre of London photographing recipients, of various awards, from the latest Operational Honours and Awards list. These brave people were being recognised for their hard work, bravery and gallantry. The awards ranged from a Mention In Despatches (MID), right through to Military Crosses (MC), Member of the order of the British Empire (MBE) and Queens Commendations for Bravery (QCB).

These jobs are always nice. You hear some amazing stories about the recipients, and there is always a nice ambience about the situation.

On the final day of the job, we were in Wellington Barracks which is next to Buckingham Palace. We were conducting live TV and Radio interviews with a select few recipients from the last two days. Prior to us arriving we had been asked to cover the changing of the guard, and also the Major Generals Review, an inspection where the General must approve the Battalions dress prior to public duties.

The job was simple, and apart form a few 'access' issues, it went well. The weather was scorching, London was packed with tourists, and I was getting paid to be there!!

Here are a select few from the day.

Hope you enjoy

Baby Bump

A neighbour of mine recently asked me to get some 'baby bump' images of their unborn child. Having never done a 'bump' shoot before it was vital I did some research before I started. Using that wonderful tool Google I set about getting some inspiration.

I wanted the images to be something the couple would cherish for years to come. I didn't want to pose too much, but found I had to for certain shots.

As with anything, small children only perform when they want to. Little Flynn was not impressed by my camera, or the flashing lights, so catching him in the picture was a little tricky.

After an hour or so of shooting, here is a small selection of what I came away with.

Enjoy

Boudoir

Today I had a shoot with the most critical model known to man........the wife!

Having not shot any images of Mrs Blake for a while, she wanted some new pictures showing off her new hair style.

My aim was to make the images nice and bright, but also very soft. For all of these images I shot using a 50mm prime, wide open at F1.8 (geek talk I know, but some of you know what it means!).

With a quick edit, here they are. I'm quite happy with the results, and secretly Mrs B is too! lol

Bah Bah Black Sheep

After passing this lambing field on route to Newbury the other day, I thought it rude not to take some photographs of the lambs on such a nice sunny day.

I am currently trying to get some images together showing rural Britain, and these are the start. I have a few images from previous shoots which I might resurrect in the near future too.

Having spent half an hour sat in a field with these lovely animals running around me, here is a small selection for you to look at.

Heather B

Today I had a long awaited shoot with Heather, a model from Southampton. Using a nearby woodland area, we quickly set to work. The weather was not on our side. It rained when we first arrived, and then was bitterly cold throughout. Luckily Heather was happy to work in these conditions, as even I was freezing, and I had more layers on than she did.

Here is a small selection from my cold mornings outing.
